“One Hell of An Amen” – Brantley Gilbert – “Just As I Am” (2014)

Who’s going to tell me that some of the shwit coming out these days just isn’t very good? The last thing I want to do is be some 45 spinning geezer from the past (when there obviously was also a bunch of bad music) but it just feels like a lot of the headliners these days are just plain awful. Or, concisely, all image and attitude with a tiny little thimble of musicality. So, I want some non-card caring AARP member to tell me that it’s not just me, there really is a lot of stuff that can go straight to the gray bin and take a ride to the landfill.

Kind of interesting on my part that I choose to post a “New Country” song on a day that I take a ranter’s stance. I used to have a fair amount of affinity for classic country (Patsy Cline, Willie, Hank Sr., and such) but hated the new stuff. The present? Infuse a little twang and some reverb and I crank up anything country.

The country purists are surely scratching their heads at the incongruous assembly of this post.

I ran my eyes over enough of an article to get the gist of the current major MC Slapfest and mind drifted to Rakim.

This is one of the best song names ever!

Is it only a matter of time before The Joy Formidable conducts an auction for the naming rights of a like-named political blog?

Click play and the song grabs your attention as much as the title.

I’m cruising the highway, windows down, volume up, thinking a little bit about Silversun Pickups. I look across the car to who I’m riding with – where we’ve been. And then, more volume, and where we’re going!

* Bohemian blasphemy. Why Kanye, why?

* I didn’t think I could hate anything more than Yeezus rolling around on the stage, pretending he was a little kid cry/rapping himself to sleep.

* I wonder how Dave Grohl’s leg is healing up?

* When I heard the rumor that this rock and roll masterwork was massacred, I was expecting an auto tuned massacre. Was his voice enhancing device out on a service call?

* If Freddie Mercury had been able to take the stage to follow that up, he probably would have mourned his loss with “Another One Bites The Dust.”

* Fifty years ago, could music artists who sold millions of units, fill their bank accounts by: publicly bullying prom queens, perma-sneering, coining clever lines about the drudgery of a pampered life, and marrying the Queen (for all posterity) of the Posterior or is that a relatively new platform on which to build a kingdom of music super stardom?

I feel, in the same way that Mr. West should go home and wash his mouth with soap, that I should play this song continuously until the horrid spectacle of ‘Ye’s rendition, is washed out of our ears.

I was warned that I shouldn’t listen, which of course, meant that I immediately stopped searching for “ways to make $57,000 per week without leaving the comfort of my couch/second skin” and immediately googled “Kanye covers Bohemian Rhapsody.” Don’t do it. Go outside and play. Don’t watch it… Just kidding, do it! It’s awesome. Kind of like watching: Howard Dean go “YEAHHHH,” Bobby Jindal walking like a robot before talking like a metronomic Mr. Rogers, or Austin Dillon trying to play helicopter in his race car.

Full disclosure – Austin Dillon was not hurt (but nevertheless do not try that on your evening commute), however the other in poor taste, suggested videos could cause therapy inducing trauma.

Here: a Play On favorite; a re-post.

For my poor baby, sweltering friends and kin folk back in the hometown, up in the Tropical Northwest, I give you a sound track for your midnight dive into Green/Angle/American Lake. Don’t forget to bring a Designated Swimmer. You might need her or him to grab you by the scruff and drag your pizza and Turbo Corona infused bodies out of the bath when your mind starts trying to cal-ca-late: Friday Night + Triple Digit Bar Tab + Exercise + Water (could) … = … Danger.

I’m not trying to rain on your sun burned parade or anything, just lookin’ out for ya’.
